A Surge of Bling

The 30,000 or so American troop "surge" that began in January of '07 has been viewed favorably here and labeled a success. Former Reagan Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Paul Craig Roberts, on the other hand, claims the "success" of the surge is because the Sunni insurgents are receiving American bling ($800,000 a DAY) in exchange for not attacking U.S. forces. It will be interesting to see how historians come down on this alleged tactic.

On this site there are some very interesting comments from sources at Iraq's "ground zero" that escape the filtering of the Pentagon and the American media. Their picture isn't nearly as rosy as what we get here. Scroll down to the section entitled "What the Troops are Actually Doing" if time is in short supply.

Relevant Sex

A local pastor has asked his married couples to have sex every day for a month per his "30-Day Sex Challenge", and for his singles to abstain from having sex for a month. The story is here. The pastor bemoaned having to use "xex" in issuing the challenge but feared using the buzzword "intimacy" would attract both less enthusiasm and participation.

The name "Relevant Church" is a clear indication that the church intends to pander to the culture rather than pattern itself after the Biblical model. While tackling the rampant rate of divorce within the church is laudable resorting to a legalistic solution will likely create more problems than it solves. Substituting doctrinally sound approaches when addressing sin with worldly gimmicks will only serve to bring reproach upon the church of Jesus Christ and enlarge the task of furthering God's kingdom. God have mercy on the parishoners of Relevant Church with shift work, symptomatic "hormonal imbalances" or "time of the month" flags.

Church and State

With politics in full swing it's not uncommon to hear the "mixing church and state" topic come up on the various talking head shows. I look forward to the day when a Christian candidate responds to the question about his or her ability to not let their religion influence their work in government with, "I would consider shelving my Christian beliefs if elected to such and such office if it weren't for it being a colossal mistake." This would cause the arm hairs to stand on end of most talking heads, not to mention, probably cost the politician a shot at winning his or her race for public office.

Sinful man deplores God's law-word and always stakes out a demonic-influenced position before accusing and defaming the righteous. Such is life on a day-to-day basis.

Sound Money

Congressman Ron Paul (R-Tex) spoke before the House of Representatives yesterday in support of sound money. While making a run at the presidency he touched on this important subject at times. His statement can be read here.

God ordained that man, not the state, would be the primary guardian and steward of property. Strict limitations are placed on the state with regards to its means to acquire and use property. America's antipathy to the gospel and love affair with our bloated federal government by necessity transfers excessive property rights to the state. As such man abdicates his responsibility to steward himself, his family, his community and indeed the nations, inviting enslavement in the process.

The leading candidates for president will not address sound money policies as there's too much personal loss in doing so. Failure to protect the property rights of individuals is tantamount to "legalized" theft.

The Bible speaks to the actions of men when being popular trumps being right-- Galatians 6 reads, "12Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ. 13Not even those who are circumcised obey the law, yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your flesh. Whatever happened to "Rodham?"

While Bill Clinton campaigned for president at his side was his wife Hillary Clinton. Upon his election Hillary preferred the press refer to her as Hillary Rodham-Clinton. Once she became a senator she's back to being known as Hillary Clinton. She still is.

Manipulation is one of Hillary's core values.

Is the Rocket's Heat Shield Melting?

Nothwithstanding the fact congress people are inserting themselves into the world of Selig-abandoned, steroid-laced professional baseball and the sexiest of its inherent problems, the grilling of Roger Clemens and his ex-personal trainer Brian McNamee made for below average reality TV yesterday. It didn’t go well for the Rocket but fortunately for him his accuser’s credibility was marginal at best.
To understand this he said-he said I take you back to former President Bill Clinton’s strong desire to understand the various applications of the word “is.” Parsing words to deflect criticism was quintessential Clintonism.
Roger Clemens stated, “I have never taken …. (anabolic steroids and HGH [human growth hormone])." Now to him, if it was his trainer injecting him then in his own mind he did not "take" them. His passively receiving them, as opposed to actively injecting them himself, may be his rationalization. I was surprised that he was not grilled on this statement.

The Two Conservative Voting Theories

At least amongst Christians there are two theories that guide one's approach to voting in modern day elections. Theory #1 is vote for the candidate who's campaign and personhood is most consistent with Biblical faith. From this one can argue whether or not the candiadte needs to be a Christian as well. Theory #2 dictates to vote for the lesser of two evils, implying all the choices are far removed from aligning with Biblical faith.

One may find it helpful to assume a hypothetical race for the Republican nomination to be between Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin. Theory #2 demands that we vote for the candidate who most closely holds conservative principles, even if there's just a hint of such. Granted, all candidates have some degree of baggage, but is there ever a point where one can abandon theory #2? Would Stalin v. Hitler reach that threshold? Would a McCain v. Obama race reach that threshold?

Freedom Fries or Freedom Flies?

This site keeps a running log of liberties lost here at home since 9/11.

A Windblown Leaf

The Bible teaches that one possible consequence of disobedience is accompanying fear. (Leviticus 26:36 " 'As for those of you who are left, I will make their hearts so fearful in the lands of their enemies that the sound of a windblown leaf will put them to flight. They will run as though fleeing from the sword, and they will fall, even though no one is pursuing them.")

America and all of its pervasive ungodliness and disobedience today renders it as a nation that freaks out when a leaf is blown from a tree. Even Osama bin Laden knows this. I won't suggest he himself is not feaful as his Islamic faith certainly is demonic to the core and renders its adherents as collectively fearful as well. Osama said, in 2004, "All that we have to do is to send two mujahedeen to the farthest point East to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al-Qaeda in order to make the generals race there to cause America to suffer human economic and political losses without their achieving for it anything of note other than some benefits to their private companies..."

The returns on our $1 trillion dollar war in Iraq can't be truly measured for decades to come. Will Al-Qaeda be as inneffective against us then as they have been since 9/11? Can we shoot radical Islam out of the hearts and minds in five or ten years time when like efforts have failed for several centuries?

There's undoubtedly a lot the public doesn't know about Iraq, Iran, Syria, Korea, global warming and the like, but all these "crises" are more than likely trumped up bogeymen used to further the might of the state. Sinful man can't help but to pursue a god-like complex because that's what his uregenerate nature demands.

Media Uses Obama

Television media types sees themselves as journalists who are able and expected to table their biases, political and otherwise, when reporting the facts. In other words, they exercise caution when plying their trade and lean on obfuscation to push their bias leanings.
Media types routinely state they're opposed to racism. Supposedly they're against the abuse, misuse and manipulation of minorities no matter the circumstances. One may forcibly and reasonably argue the opposite is true.

In the case of Barack Obama, he is touted in the press as being "African-American" over and over. The fact is his mother, now deceased, was Caucasion. To say he's African-American is essentially inaccurate. The press prefers to twist the truth though because it's a more compelling story to say he's "African-American." They get away with it because he appears thoroughly African-American. Now if the fair complexioned Britney Spears had an African-American father it would be difficult for the press to report that she was "African-American." So difficult that it wouldn't be done.

It's not difficult to see that the media is using both Barack and the African-American community to enhance their viewership numbers in order to sell costlier commercial time. And why isn't Barack defending the legacy of his own mother?
