Openmindedness - Intellectual Suicide

In our postmodern culture openmindedness is heralded as a major virtue. Essentially it means to be open to new things. To pursue enlightenment.

However, taken to its logical conclusion, if openmindedness "succeeds" then one must end the trial and declare a certain intellectual rabbit trail closed. What was open is not shut. In other words, for openmindedness to bear fruit it must end with closedmindedness.

Given this imperative, why be openminded in the first place? It's self-defeating. The whole premise of open verses close is wrong to begin with. The more relevant and helpful dichotomy to decipher is truth v. Truman Show.
