"Zero-Risk Public Education"

In order to prevent another Columbine or other assorted calamitites, Pride Elementary School (Tampa, FL) banned cars from parking in most nearby grassy spaces, forcing them into a single lane in order to pick up their children once the last bell sounds. If you want to be near the front of the line when the 2:15 p.m. bell goes off you need to be at the school by about 12:30 p.m. You can imagine being the 160th car in line to pick up your child 45 minutes after the final bell. If the parents were allowed to park their car and walk up and get their kid(s) everyone could get in and out without spending a sixth of their waking hours picking up their children. But once again we have the state dictating to parents what they should believe when it comes to the safety of their children. (And these children will be taught slavery was abolished here! Chuckle, chuckle).

In the United States there's probably a one in 2.527 million chance a student will be abducted, raped, pedophiled or murdered while at school or leaving school. Apparently the Pride Elementary leadership wants to reduce the odds to one in infinity. For the sake of the parents I hope the next PTA meeting will restore sensibility to the child pickup system. There's probably thousands of schools with a similiar problem. I suspect litigious issues wag the dog with this headache.

This is another fine example of the messianic spirit that permeates American society. The one true God is not good enough, we must become god ourselves.
