Stop those blasphemous mascots

The NCAA just passed a ruling that college team "nicknames or mascots deemed `hostile or abusive' would not be allowed on their uniforms or other clothing beginning with any NCAA tournament after Feb. 1."

This is obvious pandering to a hyper-sensitive Native American community. In essence the NCAA is sucking up to a hostile and abusive constituency, while decrying that same alleged behavior in others. This doesn't mean NCAA student-athletes (emphasis on "athletes") are immune from breaking lots of laws as their their mug shots frequently grace the papers. But as a basketball, baseball or lacrosse team there's nary any evidence of wanton hostility towards Native Americans.

If the NCAA wants a fall guy for the Native American constituency it would be reasonable to file briefs against President Lincoln. Whereas he's deceased I expect this is far-fetched.

Pass the chicken wings, it's almost time for pigski..., er "animal hide skin" season.

And a bit of advice to the fighting Illini. If you make the Big Dance come next March Madness, plaster little smiley faces on your Mascot's cheeks for the big game before letting him take the hardwood.
